Simon says...

"Simon says…"

As a ‘Die Hard’ fan of action movies I have always loved the ‘Die Hard’ trilogy and this dialogue from part 3, Die Hard with a Vengeance, is my favourite.

The story goes like this: The bad guy, ‘Simon Gruber,’ has assigned a series of tasks to the protagonist, ‘John McClane,’ and his partner, ‘Zeus Carver,’ and whenever Simon explains a task to ‘John McClane,’ he starts with this phrase, “Simon says…,” followed by the task.

We all have a ‘John McClane’ in us, but we also have a ‘Simon Gruber’ in us as well.

Let’s face it; nobody aspires to be a ‘Simon Gruber’ out of choice, we all would love to be a hero someday, so our aspirations are always about being a ‘John McClane.’

The ‘John McClane’ is us is continually guiding us to do the right thing, and make the right choices.

He is, sort of, ‘the force’ behind every good decision, good deed and the right choice that we make.

However, deep down, the ‘Simon Gruber,’ in us is also waiting for a stimulus to take control of our decisions and actions.

It is lurking beneath layers of ‘John McClane’ waiting to point us towards the wrong direction after temptations.

There is a constant struggle between ‘John McClane’ and ‘Simon Gruber’ inside you.

As is in the movie ’Simon Gruber’ always seems like more powerful. However, remember that ‘John McClane’, even when outnumbered, was and is more resourceful and is capable of fighting against all the odds.

So, if you feel that of late you have been making a lot of bad choices then my friend you have been listening to and following the ‘Simon Gruber’ in ‘you’ way too long.

If it’s a ‘daily getting up early for a walk,’ resolution that you made this new year then ‘Simon Gruber’ wants you to sleep on while the ‘John McClane’ is raring for you to get up and get going.

Or, it’s an ‘I want to quit drinking,’ resolution and you still find yourself waking up every morning sloshed then you, yes you, my friend are hanging out with ‘Simon Gruber.’

Invoke the ‘Jon McClane’ in ‘you,’ do the right thing and bring about the long-delayed change that you seek in self. You control both because they are nothing but your thoughts.

You wouldn’t want a bad guy to win now, do you? J
